What a great game
I had no dog in the fight and really didnt care who won the game but the Denver v Pittsburgh game was amazing. I really dont give a rats ass about the Tim Tebow stuff. In fact I don't understand why so many people get hung up on the whole Tebow thing. Seems to me hes a quarterback who went to a prestigious high school where games really mattered. He went to a college where every game mattered in the chase for the National Championship so naturally this is a gifted guy who is used to playing in big games. People who are shocked by his ability to win big games should really stop being surprised. This guy has never played a meaningless game. Of course he is gonna stay calm under pressure because regular season games or first round playoff games are no national championship.
The other reason Tebow keeps his head in the game is no matter what he does he can never play as bad as people predict he will. For whatever reason... whether its the Jesus thing or whether it is the out of the ordinary passing mechanics or the the fact that hes left handed or a running quarterback, People who are experts love to predict complete breakdown for Tebow. When the so called experts predict you are going to finally implode in every game all you have to do is complete one pass or score on one drive or make one thing happen and you're already ahead of the game. It is yet another reason Tebow keeps his head. There is no pressure because usually by the first quarter he has preformed over expectations. Then again it might be another thing. He has a calmness from his faith. A lot of religious athletes from the amount of prayer they've had in their life are very good at focusing in crunch time. The same can be said for those who practice forms of meditation or find other forms of relaxation that includes zoning out all of your surroundings. Its that focus on a game situation that makes you not be affected by the crowd or the clock or even the defense coming at you like maniacs when you're in the heat of battle.
So many guys hear those footsteps or feel that pressure and hurry up their plays which in essence lowers their focus and makes for less successful attempts at making what should be a normal throw, swing, shot, or kick. Truly great athletes keep their focus and instead of thinking about the oncoming rush of gigantic defenders wanting to crush them or the crowd that is screaming so loud, or the nervousness of the teammates around them. The truly focused ones simply zone that stuff out and step into the pocket and release that throw perfectly as if is a simple run through of a play in the pregame warm ups. That's what I saw today in the Overtime of this football game. I saw madness surrounding a young quarterback who simply found his focus, stepped up into the pocket and hit his receiver in stride with a throw that looked exactly as it did in the pregame.
No, I didn't have a dog in this fight but I really found myself enjoying and appreciating my notice of a young quarterback's focus. I even found myself admiring those days when I had that focus and it made me long for a way to find it again. For that I say Thanks Tim Tebow. Good Luck, you're gonna need it next week.
